8 Vancouver design stores to know & love

,

There is no sweeter afternoon than one spent browsing these Vancouver design stores paired with a cuppa coffee and Leon Bridges crooning in my ears. Trust me.

One of the things I love most about these design stores is the inspiration they provide. Let’s be real, I don’t always buy something every time I go in. I have a lovely obligation called rent. But I do enjoy browsing their unique pieces and see how they pair certain things together. If I’m feeling a lil chatty, the folks working at these spots are generally very cool and share extra little insights into their pieces, too.

Let’s dive on in.

  1. Old Faithful Shop
  2. Goodge Place
  3. Neighbour
  4. Vancouver Special
  5. Provide
  6. Stepback
  7. By Design Modern
  8. Lady.E Décor & Design

Old Faithful Shop

Old Faithful Shop, where I actually picked up my favourite lamp ever—the wireless &Tradition Mustard Flowerpot lamp—is tucked away in Vancouver’s historic Gastown and, most recently, Kitsilano. It’s like stepping into the home of your favourite couple, both architects or writers or creatives of some sort. They’re cooking dinner and casually telling you about some piece they picked up in Japan or LA. You leave feeling inspired and relaxed all at the same time.

Goodge Place

I’m always on the lookout for a good hidden gem, and let me tell you, Goodge Place is just that. Tucked away in the South Granville area, this spot has it all: super friendly staff, carefully curated goods, and coffee that’ll knock your socks off. This team has thought of every little detail to make the space pleasing to the eye.

Neighbour

Neighbour, a stylish boutique founded in Vancouver in 2011, curates clothes, objects, and stories that capture the essence of life’s little joys. It’s like having that friendly, fashion-forward neighbor who always has the perfect item to share, making each piece feel like a treasure in your collection.

Owner Anne Pearson has a clear love of Scandinavian and Japanese design traditions. The store reflects these aesthetics in every artfully displayed object. And don’t forget to check out the art and architecture books – they’ll make your coffee table look incredible.

Provide, an elegant brainchild of David Keeler, is a haven for artfully curated home accessories from master artisans around the world. With two showrooms in Vancouver’s bustling Armoury District, it’s a delightful celebration of design, where local talent and global artisans come together to create a space that feels like home.

Michelle Grimm is forever & always one of my favourite ceramicists.

Stepback

@stepback

I’ve been visiting Stepback since I’ve been 10 years old, honestly. Because you know what my mum and I love? Vintage items that make your home look like it’s straight out of a time capsule. And that’s exactly what you’ll find at Stepback. Every piece is one-of-a-kind and has its own story to tell. But it’s not all about the past—there are unique new items here too, all carefully chosen to give your home that perfect balance of vintage and modern.

By Design Modern

@bydesignmodern | By Design Modern

Okay, if you’re in the market for modern furniture and housewares, By Design Modern is your one-stop shop. The collection is carefully curated from all over the world, making contemporary interior design more accessible for everyone.

Now, you might also be thinking, why the f**k is this bench more than what I spend on groceries all month? And why is that chair the price of a Macbook Pro?

For starters, Danish teak furniture is made with high-quality materials that can stand the test of time. Teak wood is known for being durable and resistant to wear and tear, so you’re getting a piece that can last for generations.

Another reason for the high price tag is that these pieces are getting harder to come by. Many of them were only made in limited quantities, and some have become collector’s items. So, if you’re lucky enough to find a piece in good condition, you can expect to pay a premium for it.

Finally, let’s not forget about the design. Danish vintage teak furniture is known for its timeless, classic aesthetic that can fit seamlessly into modern interiors. The focus is on functionality and practicality, which has influenced contemporary design trends.

Overall, the high quality, rarity, and exceptional design of Danish vintage teak furniture are what make it so expensive. But, if you’re a fan of this style and appreciate the craftsmanship that goes into each piece, the investment can be worth it in the long run.
